SwitchGuard is a macOS menu bar utility that verifies keyboard layout switches and retries them when macOS misses the request. This page explains exactly what the app does — and does not — with your data.

What SwitchGuard accesses

SwitchGuard requests Accessibility permission on macOS. This permission is required to detect the global keyboard shortcut you configure and to read the identifier of the currently active input source (for example, "U.S." or "Russian"). It is the same category of permission used by hotkey utilities such as Bartender or Rectangle.

What SwitchGuard does not do

  • It does not read, log, or transmit the characters you type.
  • It does not perform any automatic language detection on typed text.
  • It does not make any network requests — there are no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, or remote servers involved.
  • It does not require or use an account, email address, or any personal identifier.

Local logs

SwitchGuard keeps a small local log of switch attempts (success/failure, retry count, timestamp) in a JSONL file inside your Mac's Application Support folder, purely so you can troubleshoot your own setup. This file never leaves your device and is not accessible to the developer.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of SwitchGuard after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
